# GPS Tracking and Fleet Management Questions Find answers about devices, tracking, sharing, payments, and mobile access. Last updated: . ## What is the difference between GPS tracking and fleet management? GPS tracking shows where a vehicle has reported its position and how it has moved. Fleet management adds the operational context: vehicles, driver assignments, maintenance, insurance, reports, alerts, and team access. Fleetr brings these workflows into an account, with availability determined by the plan and user permissions. ## What do I need to start tracking a vehicle in Kenya? You need a Fleetr account, a supported tracker installed and powered correctly, and a SIM with a working data connection. Add the vehicle, attach the device using its identifier, and configure the tracker using its Setup page. Confirm a fresh position and a recorded test journey before relying on the installation. ## Does GPS tracking require internet access? The tracker normally needs mobile data to send readings to Fleetr, and your phone or browser needs internet access to retrieve them. Satellite reception alone does not upload a position. Offline storage and later transmission are device-specific, so check the model's capabilities with your installer. ## Can Fleetr track fuel consumption without a fuel sensor? Fuel reports need usable fuel readings from the device and journey data. Available readings depend on the tracker and installation; the reporting page does not invent fuel consumption for a vehicle that supplies none. Check fuel-data coverage before using consumption or efficiency figures to compare vehicles. ## How do I export a vehicle tracking report? Open the account's **Reports** page, choose a report type, select the vehicle or fleet, apply a date range, and download CSV or PDF. CSV includes every matching entry. PDF supports up to 1,000 entries; narrow the selection for larger results. For route coordinates, use the vehicle's KML export instead. ## Can a customer follow a delivery without a Fleetr account? Yes. Create a link from the vehicle's sharing controls and choose a timed live-location share or the current trip. Anyone holding the link can view the shared location. Review the label, choose the shortest appropriate duration, and stop sharing when the delivery is complete. ## How do geofence alerts help manage a fleet? A geofence defines a map boundary around a place such as a depot or customer site. Recorded entry and exit events help you review visits. Assign the vehicles, enable the boundary, check its schedule, and configure notification channels in account settings. Alerts depend on received positions, so a missing event is not proof that a vehicle never visited. ## Why is a vehicle shown as offline while it is moving? Offline describes the tracker's communication with the platform, not proof that the vehicle has stopped. Investigate power, SIM data, mobile coverage, and connection settings. The displayed marker may be its last known location. Follow the [tracker troubleshooting checks](/docs/troubleshooting) before treating that position as current. ## How much does Fleetr cost? Fleetr offers subscription plans based on fleet size and included features. Visit our [pricing page](https://fleetr.co.ke/#pricing) and your account's Billing page for current rates, trial dates, and any applicable contract terms. ## Which GPS devices are supported? Fleetr supports a wide range of GPS tracking devices including Teltonika, Concox, Queclink, Sinotrack, and many others. Visit our [supported devices page](https://fleetr.co.ke/supported-devices) for the full list. ## Can I use my existing GPS device? Yes! Fleetr is not locked to any hardware. If your device uses a standard protocol (like GT06, Teltonika, or OSMAND), it can likely connect to Fleetr. Contact support if you're unsure. ## How accurate is the tracking? GPS tracking is typically accurate to within 2–5 metres in open areas. Accuracy may decrease in dense urban areas, underground parking, or areas with heavy tree cover. ## What happens if my device goes offline? The map may show its last known location. Some trackers store positions while offline and upload them after reconnecting, but this depends on the device and its configuration. Check the timestamp and investigate prolonged gaps; do not assume all missing history will be recovered. ## Can I track from my phone? Yes. Fleetr is available on [Android](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ke.co.fleetr.fleetr) and [iOS](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/fleetr-vehicle-tracking/id6757150552). You can also open the web application in your phone's browser. ## How do I disable/enable the engine remotely? From the vehicle's Commands tab, click **Disable Engine** or **Enable Engine**. This requires the device to be wired with a relay. The command is sent via the cellular network, so the device must be online. ## Is my data secure? Account access is controlled by authentication and permissions. You also control public location-sharing links: anyone holding an active link can view the location it shares. Revoke unused links, protect integration tokens, and review active sessions and team membership regularly. ## What M-Pesa payment options are available? Open an unpaid invoice and choose **Pay Now**. Complete payment using the M-Pesa or other payment options actually offered by the checkout. Return to Billing to confirm the invoice status. ## How do I contact support? - **WhatsApp:** [+254 745 952 020](https://wa.me/254745952020) - **Email:** [hello@fleetr.co.ke](mailto:hello@fleetr.co.ke) - **Phone:** [+254 745 952 020](tel:+254745952020) ## Related Guides - [Troubleshoot Tracking and Account Problems](/docs/troubleshooting) - [GPS Tracking Glossary](/docs/glossary) - [WhatsApp Support and Otto](/docs/support) - [All customer guides](/docs)
