# Create and Manage Geofences

Know when vehicles enter or leave the places that matter.

Create virtual boundaries on the map and get notified when your vehicles enter or leave them.

> **Note:** Geofencing requires a subscription plan that includes this feature.

## Creating a Geofence

1. Go to **Geofences** from your account menu
2. Click **Create Geofence**
3. Name your geofence and optionally add a description and colour
4. Draw the boundary on the map using the drawing tools:
   - **Circle** — Click a centre point and drag to set a radius
   - **Rectangle** — Click two corners to define the area
   - **Polygon** — Click multiple points to define a custom shape
   - **Triangle** — Click three points
5. Configure alerts:
   - **Entry & Exit** — Alert on both
   - **Entry only** — Alert when a vehicle enters
   - **Exit only** — Alert when a vehicle leaves
6. Review geofence entry and exit notification channels in the account's **Notification Settings**; channels are managed centrally, not separately on each geofence
7. Optionally assign vehicles to the geofence
8. Save

## Geofence Schedules

You can set schedules for when a geofence is active. For example:

- Active only during working hours (Mon–Fri, 8am–6pm)
- Active only on weekends
- Always active
- Exception dates (e.g., public holidays)

This prevents unnecessary alerts outside of relevant hours.

## Copying Geofences

If you need the same geofence boundary for multiple vehicles, you can copy a geofence to other vehicles in your fleet without redrawing it.

## Enabling / Disabling

Toggle any geofence on or off without deleting it. This is useful for temporary boundaries or seasonal routes.

## Geofence Statistics

Each geofence tracks:

- Total entry and exit events
- Last triggered time
- Recent alerts with vehicle and timestamp details

## Check a New Boundary

Confirm that the intended vehicles are assigned, the geofence is enabled, and its schedule covers the time you want to monitor. Review a recorded entry or exit after a vehicle crosses the boundary, then check notification settings if the event exists but no message arrives.

Very small boundaries can be sensitive to GPS drift. Position-reporting intervals can also mean a short visit is not captured. Use a boundary appropriate to the site and compare its events with journey positions before drawing conclusions about a visit.

## Create a Depot Entry and Exit Alert

1. Open **Geofences** in the intended account and choose **Create Geofence**.
2. Name it for a recognisable site, such as **Main depot**, and add an optional description and colour.
3. Locate the site on the map and draw the boundary using the shape that fits it. Include the area you intend to monitor rather than a single parking point.
4. Choose **Entry & Exit** if both arrival and departure matter.
5. Assign the relevant vehicles and save.
6. Check the schedule and the account notification settings for geofence entry and exit.
7. After a recorded crossing, review the geofence's alerts and the corresponding vehicle positions.

## Edit, Copy, Pause, or Delete a Geofence

Open an existing geofence to review its boundary, alert mode, vehicle associations, and recent events. Use **Edit** to correct the configuration and save the changes. Check that a schedule still matches the intended monitoring times after an operational change.

Use **Copy** when you need the boundary for other vehicles and select the destination vehicles offered in the account. Review the resulting configuration rather than assuming every operational detail matches your intentions. Toggle a geofence off for a temporary pause and on to resume monitoring. Delete it only when it is no longer needed; pausing is more suitable for a temporary closure.
