# GPS Tracker Installation Guide

Prepare your tracker and check the installation with your installer.

Use a qualified installer for wiring and immobilisation work. This section is a setup and handover checklist; the device manufacturer's instructions determine the required voltage, wiring, fuse protection, and relay arrangement.

## What You'll Need

- GPS tracking device (e.g., Teltonika FMB120, Concox GT06N)
- SIM card with a data plan (activated and with data)
- Manufacturer's installation instructions for the exact device model
- A suitable installation appointment and access to the vehicle
- A compatible relay installation if remote immobilisation is required

## Step 1 — Prepare the SIM Card

1. Insert the SIM card into a phone first to disable the PIN lock
2. Ensure the SIM has an active data plan appropriate for the reporting interval and device usage
3. Note the SIM phone number — you'll need it when adding the device in Fleetr
4. Insert the SIM card into the GPS device

## Step 2 — Locate the Installation Point

Choose a hidden location inside the vehicle:

- **Under the dashboard** — Most common, easy access to power
- **Behind the glove box** — Well hidden, good GPS reception
- **Under a seat** — Suitable for backup trackers

> **Tip:** Avoid placing the device near metal surfaces or under thick panels, as this can block GPS signals.

## Step 3 — Connect Power

Ask the installer to confirm the device's supported supply voltage, protected power source, ground connection, and ignition input where applicable. Wire colours and fuse ratings are model-specific: use the manufacturer's diagram. Check that the device remains powered in the intended parked state and that its ignition reading matches the vehicle.

## Step 4 — Relay Wiring (Optional)

If you want remote engine immobilisation:

Have the installer confirm that the tracker and vehicle support the intended immobilisation function and install it according to the manufacturer's instructions. Test disable and enable behaviour with the vehicle stationary in a controlled setting. Keep a recovery procedure available in case network connectivity is lost.

## Step 5 — Secure and Test

1. Secure all wires with cable ties — no loose wires that could rattle or short
2. Tuck the device into the chosen hiding spot
3. Power on the device and wait for the LEDs to indicate GPS fix and network connection
4. Add the device in Fleetr (see [Device Setup](/docs/device-setup))
5. Verify the vehicle's location appears on the map

## Step 6 — Configure on Fleetr

1. Log in to [fleetr.co.ke](https://fleetr.co.ke)
2. Navigate to the vehicle and go to the **Devices** tab
3. Click **Add Device** and follow the wizard
4. Open the device's **Setup** page and follow its model-specific connection instructions
5. Verify a recent position, ignition behaviour where supported, and a recorded test journey before signing off the installation
