GPS Device Setup and SIM Details
Find your tracker, connect it to Fleetr, and keep its SIM details up to date.

GPS devices are what enable real-time tracking. Fleetr supports a wide range of tracking devices from multiple manufacturers.
Start with the Hardware You Have
| Your situation | Next step |
|---|---|
| I already have a tracker and know its model | Search the supported-device directory, confirm the required capabilities, then attach it to the vehicle |
| I have a tracker but do not know its model | Check its label, packaging, installation paperwork, or manual; ask your installer or support to identify it |
| I need a new tracker | Browse the marketplace and confirm suitability, installation, and pricing with the supplier |
| My tracker is listed but a feature is missing | Check firmware, sensor wiring, configuration, and whether that specific model supplies the signal |
Find Your Tracker in the Supported-Device Directory
- Open Supported GPS Devices and choose Find your device.
- Search by manufacturer, model, or protocol. Examples shown in the directory include Teltonika, FMB920, and GT06.
- Start with the exact model. If it does not appear, shorten the model name or try the manufacturer or protocol from the manual.
- Use All devices, Popular in our directory, or the A–Z controls to browse the larger catalogue. Clear restrictive filters with Reset.
- Open a matching entry to review the available information and use Show more devices to continue through results.
- Confirm the exact model, firmware, and features you need with support before switching or buying hardware.
Fleetr supports many manufacturers and models; you do not need to memorise a device list. The searchable directory is the current reference. A catalogue listing establishes a starting point for compatibility, not a promise of fuel readings, ignition sensing, or every remote command.
If You Cannot Identify or Find the Device
Send support the manufacturer and model as printed on the label, a clear photo where useful, firmware information if known, and the features you need. Ask your installer before disturbing concealed wiring. Do not guess the model from the casing alone: visually similar trackers can use different protocols.
If the directory fails to load, use Try again or contact hello@fleetr.co.ke. Search requires JavaScript. A missing search result does not by itself establish that your tracker is incompatible; support can help assess the exact device.
Adding a Device
The device setup follows a guided wizard:
Step 1 — Choose Device Make Select your device manufacturer from a searchable grid of supported brands. Fleetr works with devices from Teltonika, Concox, Queclink, Sinotrack, and many others.
Step 2 — Choose Device Model Select the specific model for your chosen manufacturer.
Step 3 — Enter Device Details
- IMEI number — The unique 15-digit identifier printed on your device. The wizard shows device-specific instructions for finding it (including SMS commands you can send to the device)
- SIM card number — The phone number of the SIM card in the device
- Set as primary — If the vehicle already has a device, choose whether this one becomes the primary tracker
Step 4 — Review & Confirm Review all details and confirm. The device will appear in your vehicle's device list.
Configure the Tracker to Connect
- Open the attached device's Setup page.
- Check that its selected make and model match the physical tracker.
- Follow the device-specific setup instructions, including the SIM network/APN, server address, protocol port, and reporting interval where provided.
- If the instructions use SMS, send the displayed commands to the tracker SIM number in the stated order and wait for acknowledgements between commands.
- Return to the vehicle and check for a recent location update.
Use the values shown on the Setup page. Commands, passwords, ports, and supported settings differ between models. The tracker SIM needs network coverage and an active data allowance; SMS setup also needs SMS service. An acknowledgement to an SMS command confirms that command was received, but does not by itself confirm a working data connection.
Primary and Backup Devices
Each vehicle can have multiple devices:
- Primary device — The main tracker used for live location, journey recording, and remote commands
- Backup device — A secondary tracker for redundancy (e.g., a hidden backup in case the primary is tampered with)
Devices are auto-named based on the vehicle registration. The primary keeps the base name; backups are suffixed (e.g., "KDA 123A Backup 2"). You can change which device is primary at any time from the vehicle's Devices tab.
Device Status
Devices report the following states:
- Online — Actively sending location data
- Offline — No data received recently
- No GPS — Device is online but has no satellite fix
Check the timestamp as well as the status. A tracker can communicate with the platform while unable to obtain a fresh GPS position, and a vehicle can be parked while its tracker remains online. Missing fuel, battery, or ignition data may mean the hardware does not report that signal.
Update SIM Details or Correct a Device Record
- Open the vehicle and select Devices.
- Find the correct tracker, especially if the vehicle has primary and backup devices, and open its edit action.
- Update SIM Card Number with the phone number of the SIM installed in that tracker. This field is the SIM's phone number, not its long printed card serial number.
- Check the device name, type, and identifier. Change the IMEI/device ID only when correcting the actual hardware identifier.
- Save and reopen the record to confirm the new details.
- If you physically replaced the SIM, verify its activation, mobile data, APN, and any SMS configuration, then check for a fresh location report.
Editing SIM details in Fleetr does not activate the SIM with the network or remotely rewrite all settings on the tracker. If the replacement uses a different network, follow the model-specific Setup instructions again. Keep the previous and new numbers available when asking support to investigate a connection problem.
Change the Primary Tracker or Remove a Device
Use Set primary on the intended tracker when a backup should become the vehicle's main device. Check the vehicle's live view after switching. Edit an existing device record for a corrected SIM number; do not add a second tracker record just to represent the same device's new SIM.
When removing an attached device, check its identity and whether another tracker will remain on the vehicle. Removal changes its association in Fleetr; it does not physically uninstall the unit or cancel the mobile-network service. Review connectivity and the primary-device selection after any replacement.
