Drivers, Assignments, and Journeys
Keep driver details together and review their work with the context of each journey.

Assign drivers to your vehicles to track who's behind the wheel and monitor driving behaviour.
Note: Driver management requires a subscription plan that includes this feature.
Adding a Driver
- Go to your account's Drivers section
- Click Add Driver
- Enter the driver's details:
- Full name
- Phone number
- Email address (optional)
- National ID number (optional)
- Licence number (optional)
- Licence class (country-specific, e.g., Class BCE for Kenya)
- Licence expiry date
- Emergency contact (name and phone)
- Save the driver profile
Driver Assignments
Once added, drivers can be assigned to vehicles. This lets you:
- Know which driver was operating a vehicle during any trip
- Track licence expiry dates and get reminders (warnings appear within 30 days of expiry)
- Monitor driving behaviour per driver
Open the driver's profile to review the current assignment. If unassigned, choose an available vehicle from the same account and add any assignment notes. Use Unassign Vehicle when that assignment ends before assigning a replacement.
When a driver leaves active duty, use the deactivate action. Deactivation unassigns the driver while preserving journey history, so past work remains attributable. Keep licence and contact details current when a driver returns to work.
Create and Maintain a Driver Profile
- Select the correct account, open Drivers, and choose Add Driver.
- Enter the person's name and contact details, identification, licence details and expiry, and emergency contact information requested by the form.
- Select the licence class appropriate to the driver's country and qualifications.
- Save and reopen the profile to check for mistakes before assigning a vehicle.
- Use Edit to update contact details or renewed licence information later.
A driver record represents the person responsible for driving; it does not automatically invite that person as an application user. Use account team management separately if they also need a Fleetr login.
Assign a Driver and Review Their Journeys
- Open the driver's profile and inspect the current vehicle assignment.
- If necessary, unassign the previous vehicle using the available action.
- Choose an available vehicle in the account, add useful assignment notes, and confirm.
- Open the vehicle's Drivers section to check the assignment.
- Review journeys and the driver information recorded for the relevant period. Open the vehicle's Journeys tab for route playback and the reporting tools for a dated activity review.
Set assignments when responsibility changes. Do not assume that assigning a driver today retrospectively corrects every historical journey. If a past trip has missing or unexpected driver attribution, compare the assignment timing with the journey time and ask support about the specific record before using it in a driver review.
Licence Expiry and Inactive Drivers
Check licence expiry warnings and update the profile after renewal. An approaching-expiry warning is a prompt to review the actual licence, not a renewal application. Deactivate a driver who is no longer working with the fleet to end the active assignment while retaining their history. To reactivate a driver, open Edit, set Driver status to Active, and save before reviewing the new assignment. First name, last name, and phone are required when creating a driver; licence, identification, and emergency-contact information are optional but useful.
Driver Behaviour
Fleetr tracks driving events such as:
- Harsh braking
- Rapid acceleration
- Harsh cornering
- Overspeeding
These events contribute to a driving score (0–100) visible on the driver profile and the vehicle's Analytics tab. Scores are rated as Excellent (90+), Good (75–89), Average (60–74), Poor (40–59), or Critical (below 40).
You can configure sensitivity thresholds for these events from the Driver Behaviour settings in your account.
