Journeys, History, and Route Playback

Look back over the day, follow a recorded route, and take the details with you.

Last updated: .

Fleetr records journeys from the tracking data received from your devices. The completeness of the history depends on device reporting and connectivity.

Viewing Journeys

Navigate to a vehicle's Journeys tab to see:

  • Date and time of each trip (start and end)
  • Start and end locations with addresses
  • Distance travelled in kilometres
  • Duration of each trip
  • Maximum speed reached during the trip

Summary cards at the top show trip count, total distance, and total duration for the selected period.

Trip Playback

Click on any journey to see the full route played back on a map. The playback shows:

  • The recorded route, drawn from reported positions on the map
  • Speed at each point along the route
  • Stops and idle periods highlighted
  • A timeline you can scrub through, with playback speeds of 1×, 2×, 4×, 8×, 16×, 32×, and 64×

Filtering

Filter journeys by period — Today, This Week, This Month, or a custom date range — to find specific trips or generate reports.

Reviewing a Trip

  1. Open the vehicle's Journeys tab and select a date range.
  2. Check the trip's start and end time before opening playback.
  3. Play, pause, or move through the timeline to inspect the reported positions and speed.
  4. Compare the route with alerts from the same period when investigating an incident.

Gaps between reported positions are not proof of the exact path travelled. Poor GPS reception, a long reporting interval, or an offline tracker can reduce route detail. A trip still in progress may not appear in reports that count completed journeys.

Exporting Tracks

Use the available KML export for a journey or the selected vehicle track to open the recorded coordinates in a compatible mapping application. Use Fleet Reports when you need tabular journey records in CSV or PDF.

Use Playback Step by Step

  1. Choose a completed journey whose date and start/end points match the trip you want to investigate.
  2. Open playback and start at to understand the route and displayed readings.
  3. Pause at the area of interest, or move the timeline to a particular part of the trip.
  4. Increase the speed for a longer trip, then slow down again to inspect details.
  5. Compare the displayed speed and time with alerts or other records from that period.

Playback speed changes how quickly you review recorded data; it does not change the journey's measured duration or fill gaps between coordinates. The route is a record of positions received, not continuous video of the road.

Find a Missing Journey

Confirm the vehicle and account first, then widen the date range and check the timezone. Check whether the trip is still open and whether the tracker supplied positions and trip events. A gap in communication or GPS reception can affect both journey detection and playback detail. Compare the live update time and device history before concluding that a journey was deleted.

Export a Route or a Journey Table

Use KML when a mapping tool needs geographic coordinates. Use the Trip history report for rows of journey dates, times, and distances. Use Vehicle usage for totals grouped by vehicle. These exports serve different purposes; a PDF summary is not a substitute for the recorded coordinate track.

Historical Data

The current historical-data policy uses a minimum retention window of 730 days. An applicable plan or approved contract can provide a longer window. Older tracking history is subject to removal; choosing a wider date range cannot recover deleted records.

This tracking-history policy covers journeys, positions, telemetry, events, and related tracking logs. Maintenance and insurance records are managed separately. Export the records you need for long-term business records before they fall outside your account's retention window.
